Dabangg was a turning point in Malaika's life

Dabangg was a turning point in Malaika`s life

Malaika Arora Khan says the day she and her husband Arbaaz Khan decided to become movie producers, was the most important turning point in her life.

"Professionally, there have been many instances which have actually made me the person I am today. But by far, the most special was the day when Arbaaz and I decided to become producers and make a film which is 'Dabangg' and now we are making the sequel. So, professionally, it's the most important turning point in my life," Malaika said at an event to support the Clean Shaven Look for Men campaign.

While 'Dabangg' was directed by Abhinav Kashyap, Arbaaz has himself taken the reins of 'Dabangg 2' in his own hands.

Talking about Arbaaz as a director, Malaika, who had danced to "Munni badnaam" in the first instalment, said: "I am really excited and nervous. It's been superb not just producing this time, but having him direct the film. I have been pretty hands-on, so yes, it's really nerve-wrecking right now".

"Dabangg 2" stars Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. While Kareena is doing a special song in the film, Malaika will also be seen in a special appearance, which she is keeping under the wraps. However, if reports are to be believed, Malaika has already shot for a peppy number.

"Dabanng 2" is set for release Dec 21.

Hitting the right notes with Salman Khan

Hitting the right notes with Salman Khan

It's his debut as a playback singer and Vikas Bhalla couldn't have asked for more! Not only has 'Po po' been picturised on Salman Khan, it has also crossed more than two million hits on a video sharing site!

`My stars are aligned right I think,` Vikas said with a laugh, when CS met him at his Bandra bungalow. And after making such a smashing debut, Vikas dreams of working with AR Rahman and Asha Bhosle someday! Here, the singer speaks about the song, competition in the music industry and his future plans:

On a song!
I had recorded two tracks which I was keen to pitch for films. I met Salman Khan three months back and he heard the tracks. He immediately called Himesh Reshammiya and told him that I would be doing the vocals for his next song. Himesh heard me and I dubbed it. Now the song has an acoustic and rock version too coming out.

Learning the ropes
My first album came out in 1997. Another album came out after a gap of three or four years. Then I took a long break as there was nothing happening in the music field.

Much later, I did an album but that was not promoted so well. That's when I realised that it doesn't make sense to bring out private albums when they are not doing well. A year ago, I decided that it's time to go for Bollywood. I've never been pushy about my career. Earlier, I was also busy with my acting projects on TV.

I didn't take out time to market myself as a playback singer. I'm learning the ropes now as I feel it's important. I'm making the effort of meeting people. Even as a singer, I've worked upon myself. I'm a trained classical singer but since the past one year, I have been laying a lot of emphasis on my riyaaz.

Song decides the singer
Right now, the music scenario is such that it's not about an actor having a particular voice anymore, but a particular song having a particular voice. And that is better for the song, which is better for the music industry.

A simple example is of 'Tu cheez badi hai mast mast', which was originally sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. When they wanted it for a film, it was sung beautifully by Udit Narayan. But in the current scheme of things, they would have probably retained Nusrat saab's voice.

Go with the flow
Bollywood sells and you have to go with the flow. But I genuinely hope that the independent music industry also takes off. There are a lot of talented musicians who feel lost as there is no outlet. Singers like Lucky Ali or Daler Mehendi have come out with phenomenal music in their private albums. That's the kind of music I would like to hear more often.

Unhappy at not getting an A-list heroine, Ayushmann dumps Kunal Kohli

Unhappy at not getting an A-list heroine, Ayushmann Khurrana has opted out of the filmmaker's project

Ayushmann Khurrana may be just one-film old, but he already has his priorities in place. Since he did not approve of the leading lady opposite him in Kunal Kohli's next, the actor decided to walk out of the project.

Our source says, `A few top-notch actresses were being considered for this rom-com. Later, the names of Ileana D'Cruz and Diana Penty had also crossed the minds of the makers. However, their dates didn't match.`

A source close to the actor says, `Contrary to rumours, he left as he did not get the right pairing. He wanted an A-list actress opposite him but that did not happen.`

Ayushmann tells us, `It's not a concept -based film. So the casting and pairing is very important. But I have no qualms working with a newcomer.`

Kangna the gangster!

Kangna the gangster!

The actress gets into gangster mode for an upcoming revenge drama

Kangna Ranaut is all set to get into gangster mode. The actress has been pencilled in for debutant Sai Kabir's upcoming flick that revolves around a female outlaw.

The project is being produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia and Rahul Mittra who earlier made Sahib Biwi aur Gangster together.

Says a source, `Kangna was recently signed for the film. She will be seen as a gun-toting character in the revenge drama.

The film, set in the hinterlands, will have her essay the title role. Considering that she has done the dark 'n' dreary to comedy to chic roles, she feels this will showcase her in new light.`

Like Dhulia's Irrfan-starrer Paan Singh Tomar, this gangster flick will also be shot in Madhya Pradesh. Interestingly this is the same project for which there was earlier buzz that Tabu was to essay the pivotal role. But it seems that they opted for Kangs instead.

The film's writer-director Sai Kabir had penned the dialogues in the Sanjay Dutt-starrer Lamhaa and the screenplay for the Shahid Kapoor-Vidya Balan film Kismet Konnection.

He was slated to make his debut as director with Chemistry, a film produced by Shreyas Talpade featuring the actor along with Tanishaa and Soha Ali Khan. The film though shot in Paris has yet to see light of day.

I have been cheated: Rajesh Khanna's lady-love Anita Advani

I have been cheated: Rajesh Khanna`s lady-love Anita Advani

Anita Advani, who claims to be late Rajesh Khanna's live-in partner, has sent a notice to the late superstar's family for evicting her from his bungalow.

"I have been cheated. How can anybody do this? I am extremely upset," Advani told.

"We have sent the notice and I am going to fight for justice. A woman should not suffer all her life like this. Women should have the right to fight for justice. Manohar Shetty is my lawyer," she added.

According to media reports, Advani filed a domestic violence case in a Bandra court.

On Thursday, the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate ordered notices to be served to Rajesh Khanna's wife Dimple Kapadia, son-in-law and actor Akshay Kumar and daughters Twinkle Khanna and Rinki Saran.

Advani says she has spent the best time with Rajesh Khanna.

"It was the most memorable time of my life and nobody can take it away from me. I had spent the best phase of my life with him.

"The journey was sweet and sour - I have some good memories and some horrifying memories as well."

She claims she had a cordial relationship with the actor's family before he passed away in July.

"But things changed during the end. It's really sad. I don't want to talk about it," Advani said.

She hopes she is granted protection under the Domestic Violence Act and allowed access to Ashirwad, Rajesh Khanna's bungalow in Bandra, where she claimed to have lived with the actor since 2003.

Her lawyer Shetty told: "The respondents will have to reply Nov 27. Anita has been humiliated and removed from Ashirwad by the family members, which is unfair." When contacted, the late actor's close family friend Vijay Zaveri said: "We don't want to comment on it."

I have no plans to marry Kunal Khemu: Soha Ali Khan

I have no plans to marry Kunal Khemu: Soha Ali Khan

After Saif and Kareena's much-hyped wedding last month, sister Soha Ali Khan says the newly married couple are back on the sets and are busy in shooting their films

Saif, 42 and Kareena, 32, had a lavish five-day wedding in Mumbai and Delhi. "They are back to reel life and both are busy with their respective films.

Bhai (Saif) is working on Tigmanshu Dhulia's upcoming film 'Bullet Raja'. The marriage was a very understated affair and there weren't any typical traditional ceremonies," Soha said. The 34-year-old actress was in the Capital with her boyfriend Kunal Khemu to launch the first look Autumn Winter '12 collection' of high-end luxury store Bally here.

Asked about her marriage plans, Soha said, "A marriage has just happened in the house so at the moment I have no plans to get married. Kunal is is very passionate about whatever he does be it films, be it music or be it his family."

Soha is currently busy with Tigmanshu Dhulia's "Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster 2" and says she is excited to play a tormented wife of Irrfan Khan in the sequel of hit 2011 thriller. "I am playing the role of biwi (wife) in the film and there are not one but two wives in the film, so you can understand what will be happening under one roof.

The film is set in a particular house, particular society and then there is election and lot more things. The film is true to the director's style and he is a genius," she said. Soha, who is the new entry to the film along with Irrfan, said she did not face any problems in getting along with the other actors, which include Mahi Gill, Jimmy Sheirgill and Pravesh Rana.

"If you are joining as a new person where everyone has gelled with others then it is difficult, but I am a very friendly person and I adjust very quickly. So I got on fine with everyone. The script has been written in such a way that every character has got justice," she said. The film is expected to hit theatres on March 8, 2013.
